1876 Rugby Memories

90 years have past since Kelso RFC won their first Border League Championship in 1930/31.

A massive thank you to Irene Chisholm for the photos of her dad, ‘Flood’ Rodgers, who captained the side to the famous victory.

George 'Flood ' Rodgers

Grandpa of Neil Hastie & Gary Chisholm, Great Grandpa of Murray Hastie & Uncle of John Brooks.

‘Flood’ was known as a great all round sportsman, but it was his performances on the rugby park that he really made his name.

He had the distinction of skippering the first Kelso side to win the Border League, in the 1930/31 season and holds 37 medals for 7 aside competitions.

‘Flood’ played his first game for the Tweedsiders at scrum half at the tender age of 15 and had three trials for The South. During his sojourn in Langholm. He also turned out for the milntown side.
